Read and research at the Charleroi Area Public Library. Our nonprofit establishment in Charleroi, Pennsylvania is for book lovers and curious individuals who are looking to quench their thirst for knowledge.

Our Mission

To encourage lifelong learning and provide public access to written, recorded, and electronic resources.

Library Resources

Reading Materials

We have more than 30,000 cataloged items, books, audiobooks, and DVDs. Periodicals such as National Geographic, Pennsylvania Game News, and Smithsonian are included in our selection as well.

Visitors can also read the latest issue of Mon Valley Independent, the local newspaper.

The Children’s Room

This delightful little nook is where we shelf reading materials for kids. We keep chapter books for more advanced young readers and storybooks for the littlest learners in this area.

Electronics Section

Our library offers free Wi-Fi in the facility. Visitors have access to several computers so that they can research faster as well. Printing, photo scanning, and faxing services are also available for a small fee.

About Our Historical Library

The Charleroi Area Public Library is located in downtown Charleroi, a small town in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It is housed in the former local United States Post Office, which is a National Historic Landmark building built in 1912.

Our library was previously named after John K. Tener, the 25th Governor of Pennsylvania. However, the name was later changed to Charleroi Area Public Library.

Our Service Areas

Since 1941, the Charleroi Area Public Library has been serving more than 12,000 residents in the Mid Monongahela Valley. These citizens include individuals from the following places:

  • Charleroi

  • Dunlevy

  • Fallowfield Township

  • North Charleroi

  • Speers

  • Stockdale

  • Twilight
